Mandatory parts and sunnahs of wudoo ‘

Question
What are the essential parts (arkaan, lit. “pillars”), obligatory parts (waajib) and sunnahs of wudoo ‘?

ReplY

Praise be to Allah

First:

The essential parts (“pillars”) of wudoo ‘are six:

Wash the face, whose mouth and nose are part of it.

Wash the arms to the elbows.

Wipe the head.

Wash feet to the ankles.

Wash these parts of the body in the correct order.

Do these actions consecutively (that is, wash one after the other without a long interval).

Allah, exalted, says (interpretation of meaning):

“O you who believe! When you intend to offer As-Salat (prayer), wash your face and hands (forearms) to the elbows, rub your head (passing wet hands) and wash them feet to ankles “

[al-Ma’ida 5: 6]

See: ar-Rawd al-Murbi ‘Ma’a Haashiyat Ibn Qaasim (1 / 181-188).

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

What is meant by compulsory parts (makeup) of wudoo ‘are the essential parts (pillars).

Thus, we can understand that the scholars (may Allah be merciful to them) use different expressions to describe the obligatory parts (makeup) as essential parts (arkaan, pillars lit) and vice versa. End quote from ash-Sharh al-Mumti ‘(1/183).

We mentioned earlier that blush is identical to waajib [both mean mandatory] according to the majority of scholars. See question no. 127,742.

Thus, wudoo’s obligatory parts (waajib) are its essential pillars or parts, which can also be called makeup. These are the actions without which wudoo ‘can not be valid.

As for Bismillaah before wudoo ‘, Imam Ahmad was of the opinion that it was obligatory.

However, the majority of specialists believe that it is one of the sunnahs of the wudoo ‘and that it is not obligatory. This has been discussed previously, in fatwa no. 21241.

Secondly:

The sunnahs of wudoo ‘are numerous. Sheikh Saalih al-Fawzaan (may Allah be pleased with him) said:

The sunnahs of wudoo ‘are:

Use the siwaak, which must be done during the rinsing of the mouth, so that through the mouth and the mouth, the mouth is purified for worship and prepared for the recitation of the Qur’an and conversation with Allah to be glorified and exalted.

Wash your hands three times starting with wudoo ‘, before washing your face, because of the hadiths that speak about it, and because the hands are the tools used to carry water to other parts of the body So it is wise to wash them before proceeding with wudoo ‘.

Begin by rinsing your mouth and nose before washing your face, since beginning with them is mentioned in the hadiths; and we must do them thoroughly when we do not fast.

What is meant by washing the mouth is to circulate water in all parts of the mouth, and when rinsing the nose, it means that it takes water up to the part of the mouth. deeper nose.

In the case of a thick beard, ensure that water penetrates everywhere; and making sure the water gets between your fingers and toes.

Starting right in the case of hands / arms and feet, before the left.

Wash more than once, up to three times, when washing the face, hands / arms and feet.

End quote from al-Mulakhkhas al-Fiqhi (1 / 44-45).

Another sunna wipes the ears, according to the majority of scholars. Imam Ahmad was of the opinion that wiping them was obligatory. This has been discussed previously in fatwa no. 115246.

After making the wudoo ‘, it is obligatory to recite the following supplication: Ashhadu an laa ilaaha ill Allah Allah wahdahu laa shareeka lah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan’ abduhu wa rasooluhu. Allaahumm aj’alni min al-tawwaabeena waj’alni min al-mutatahhireena, subhaanaka Allaahumma wa bi hamdika, ashhadu an laaaaha ill anta, astaghfiruka wa atoobu ilayka and I testify that Muhammad is his slave and messenger O Allah, make me one of those who repent and make me one of those who purify themselves, no god but you, I seek your forgiveness and I repent.

For a complete description of wudoo ‘, please see fatwa no. 11497.

And Allah knows better.
