SERDANG (Bernama): The tragedy of six divers at the Fire and Rescue Department (JPBM) Sea Rescue Unit (PPDA) who drowned during a search and rescue operation (SAR) ) is the first in the history of the department.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
JPBM Chief Executive Mohammad Hamdan Wahid told a meeting at Serdang Hospital that prior to this search and rescue operation, there were few fatal incidents involving firefighters.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
“This is the first time that six staff members have died.There was a previous case where we lost two members of the department.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
“We did the CPR but we could not save them and it was a very sad day for us, that day involved so many of our employees,” he said.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
Six PPDA divers died on Wednesday, October 3, at 9:15 pm, while conducting a search and rescue operation following a teenager who fell in a disused mining pond at Taman Putra Perdana, near Puchong, and feared to be drowned.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
Mohammad Hamdan said JBPM would look into all aspects of the welfare of the victims’ families, including compensation and insurance.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
