Quran memorization tips

Memorizing the Qur’an is both a spiritual and physical journey. However, it takes sincerity, consistency, and perseverance on the part of a person to become Hafiz-e-Quran. There are different ways for Muslims to memorize the Qur’an. To increase the power of memorization, different methods are taught to students. Some tips to facilitate the memorization process are shared here:

- Select a specific time – Timing is a very important factor when memorizing the Qur’an. Select a specific time of the day and allocate it for Quran memorization. You are able to understand when you are most productive and attentive. The best time to memorize is early in the morning, right after you wake up, that is, Fajr. At that time, your mind and body are both fresh and receptive. The mind stores the day of fatigue. Also, remember that you must take the time to memorize the Quran instead of waiting for a moment to start memorizing. If you have decided to start memorizing, then start now!

- Be consistent in your effort – Take small steps in the beginning. We are all very excited at the beginning and we know that we will be disappointed when we do not see the desired result and even that some people give up with the learning process. Instead, start slowly. Consistency is more important than the amount you memorize. Be sure to memorize a few lines of the Qur’an daily. Instead of taking great lessons at the end of the week, try memorizing a few ayas every day. Creating the habit of memorizing some Ayurveda.

- Follow a technique to memorize the Quran – You can start memorizing the Qur’an, you must follow and plan systematically. Different people have different methods to memorize. You can start memorizing the process with 3 ayas a day and move on to more verses. The ayat you have to memorize 10 to 15 times. After reading it while looking at the paper, look now to read without looking. In this way, you will develop a technique to memorize the Qur’an. Sometimes, write ayat too, remembering it by heart. After memorizing an ayat, go to the next ayat and repeat the same method. At the end of the lesson, repeat the three ayas together. You have more ayas to review every day before you start memorizing new ayas.

- Another advice on memorization is to start with the last Quranic chapters. As the Surahs at the end of the Qur’an are generally recited among Muslims, this gives a greater possibility of easily remembering the verses. This is both helpful and encouraging for the learning process.

- Repeat what you have memorized – Repetition is the key to memorizing. It helps you remember what you learned the day before and help you think about new cells to increase learning and memorizing ability. So, before starting with ayas new memorization, repeat the ayas you learned earlier. It also allows you to connect the ayas. Also, repeat the memorized ayas recite the memorized while offering prayers (namaz) you are also listening properly. Repetition is also used for correction. So, if you have forgotten something, you will not be able to recite Ayat correctly.

- Understand what you memorize – You try to understand the verses you memorize. This helps in the memorization process. If Arabic is not your mother tongue, keep a translated copy of the Qur’an with you while memorizing. This increased your knowledge of the Quran and also increases the reward. The Almighty says: The Quran is easy “And we have indeed made the Qur’an easy to understand and remember?” [Al-Qamar 54:17]

- Listen to the recitation of the Quran – Listening to the recitation of the Qur’an can also memorize verses. If you listen to the same many times, they will be engraved in your mind and you will remember easily. Choose an audio recitation from the Qur’an by a Qari, which suits your listening and is understandable to you. Listen to it during the day or before going to sleep. In this way, you will be familiar with the Qur’an and improve your ability to memorize.

- Take advice – If you have trouble memorizing the Quran on your own, you can follow the advice of a professional Quran Courses teacher. A professional Quran tutor will help you with memorization techniques. He/she will be there to listen to your memorized lessons and spot the mistakes. In addition, when you select a guardian, it is easy for you to allocate a specific time that you are bound by the guardian. A good tutor of the Qur’an helps you reach your goal of memorization with constant encouragement and advice.

- Choose the method that suits you but does not wait to memorize it. The Quran is indeed Momin’s best friend. As the Prophet (PBUH) said: “Read the Quran, it will be the intercessor of his companions on the Day of Resurrection” [Sahih Muslim Book 9, Hadith 991]
