Dua For Protection From Ignorance In English

I seek refuge in Allah from being among the ignorant.

Surah Al-Baqarah – 2:67

Question:

Does anyone knowingly commit sin, knowing that against the orders of Allah, that glory is for him to have a chance to accept his Tawbah? Because in chapter 4: 17-18, it is said that Allah be glory to him. Accept the repentance of those who do evil in ignorance and soon after, repent. Also in 3: 135 it is said that believers are those who do not insist to knowingly sin. But whoever disobeys Allah Glory is for him, knowingly or unknowingly, he is ignorant according to Mujahid. and is the term used in 4:17 a general term that Jahalah means “to act out of ignorance?”

Answer

Praise be to Allah.

If a person commits a sin knowing that he disobeys Allah and opposes His command by exposing himself to punishment, she repents sincerely. Allah will accept his repentance and forgive him, regardless of the gravity of his sin. Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

If a person repents of his sin, Allah will forgive him, whether or not, as he has said (interpretation of meaning):

“Say: O Ibaadi (My slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Do not despair of the mercy of Allah, in truth, Allah forgives all sins. Really, he is often indulgent and merciful. “

[Al-Zumar 39:53]

Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

If a person sincerely repents, his previous evil deeds will be erased and the reward of his good deeds will be restored to her.

Secondly:

Regarding the words of Allah (interpretation of meaning):

“Allah only accepts the repentance of those who do evil in ignorance and foolishness and repent soon after. they are the ones to whom Allah will forgive and Allah is All-Knowing and Wise. “

[an-Nisa ‘4:17],

what is meant by ignorance in this verse is deciding to go ahead and to commit an act of disobedience to Allah; it does not mean that he does not know at the beginning that what he does is a sin and an act of disobedience. In this case, if he repents quickly, Allah will accept his repentance. Anyone who repents before death is considered to have repented “shortly after”. This is by the grace of Allah and His abundant mercy towards His slaves.

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

Abu’l-‘Aaliyah said: I asked the companions of Muhammad about this verse and they said to me: All who disobey Allah are ignorant and all who repent before death repent ” shortly thereafter. This was also the opinion of the majority of commentators.

Mujaahid said: Whoever disobeys Allah is ignorant at the moment of disobedience. Al-Hasan, Qataadah, ‘Ata’, as-Suddi and others said: They are only called ignorant because of their disobedience, and not because they do not have the power of discernment.

Az-Zajjaaj said: The verse does not mean that they do not know it’s bad, because if a Muslim does something he does not know about, he is considered a man who did nothing wrong. Rather, it is one of two things: either they did it when they were not quite aware of its harmful consequences, or they did it knowingly and knew that its consequences would be bad, but they preferred an immediate material gain to the hereafter, so they were called ignorant because of their preference for a little earthly pleasure over abundant pleasure and eternal well-being (in the ‘beyond).

What this means here is that whoever disobeys Allah is ignorant and anyone who fears him has knowledge.

The scholars of the (permanent) Committee were interviewed:

I am an old man, aged fifty-nine, and I was afraid when I heard the verse in which Allah, that He is exalted, says (interpretation of meaning):

“Allah only accepts the repentance of those who do evil in ignorance and foolishness and repent soon after. they are the ones to whom Allah will forgive and Allah is All-Knowing, Sage.

And the repentance of those who continue to do evil deeds until death is confronted with one of them is without effect and this one says: Now I repent “

[an-Nisa ‘4: 17-18].

Does committing evil deeds knowing that they are evil prevent repentance?

The experts of the Committee replied:

The fact that a person has sinned knowing that it is a sin does not prevent him from repenting. There are three conditions for repentance: to give up sin, to regret what one has done and to resolve so as not to return to sin. If the rights of human beings have been affected, it is essential to return them or ask them to leave one. And whoever disobeys Allah is ignorant.

Thirdly:

The verse (interpretation of meaning):

“And those who, when they have committed Fahishah (illegal sexual intercourse, etc.) or wronged themselves, remember Allah and ask forgiveness for their sins; – and no one can forgive sins except Allah – and do not persist in what they have done wrong, while they know “

[Aal Imraan 3: 135]

does not contradict what we said above. This verse means that one of the characteristics of Allah’s pious slaves is that, if they commit a grave or a lesser sin, they hasten to repent and ask forgiveness, and they remember their Lord, and that he warned the sinners of what he promised the stakes; then they ask him to forgive their sins and to hide their sins, while abandoning them and regretting them. Therefore, he says “and does not persist in what they have done wrong (as long as they know)”.

See: Tafseer as-Sa ‘di, p. 148

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

If he persists in a minor sin, he becomes a major sin, but if he repents, he will be forgiven. … If he repents sincerely, his sins will be forgiven. Then, if he returns to sin, he must repent again, and if he repents, Allah will accept his repentance again.
