Istikharah: seeking advice from Allah

At certain stages of life, we often find ourselves at a crossroads, forced to make important decisions that would have a huge impact on our future. These decisions may concern the choice of a career, the marriage with a person, the purchase of a car or a house, the moving or moving in a foreign country, etc.
In spite of all the positive and negative aspects and the consultation of family, friends or other qualified people, this task of making an informed decision leaves us doubtful and nervous. Congratulations and thanks to our Creator who does not leave us worried and worried in these crucial times. He taught us a special prayer to guide us in making decisions, called Salat Al-Istikharah. When performing this prayer, Allah is asked to guide him to the right choice concerning a certain essential subject.

The prayer of Istikharah has been described in a hadith narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah Al-Salami: the suras of the Koran. That he (peace be upon him) said: ‘If any of you are concerned about a decision he has to take, let him pray two rakahs of non-obligatory prayer, then say’ Allah, I ask your decision by your knowledge and your decree by your ability, and I ask you of your great favor. Because you can and I can not, and you know and I do not know, and you know perfectly the hidden things. O Allah, if you knew that this case (to name it here) is good for me in my religion, my livelihood and the result of my business, then decree it for me, make it easier for me and bless it for me. And if you knew that this matter is bad for me in my religion, my livelihood, and the result of my adventure, then move it away from me and away from this affair, and tell me what is good, wherever she is. And then settle for it. (Al-Bukhari, Al-Tirmidhi, Al-Nisa’i, Abu Dawood, Ibn Maajah and Ahmad).

The result of Istikharah is known by being inclined to do something and continuing to be positive about it. Moreover, if the decision you are about to make is good for him (in both worlds), the paths that will lead to it will open and if they are not, they will be obstructed and Allah will direct him elsewhere. The beauty of Istikharah lies in the fact that the person who sought the advice of Allah will be satisfied with his decision, even if it distracts him from what he thought good, knowing that it is the result of his Istikharah. This is because, Allah, the Creator knows what is best and will guide his servants definitively to what is best for them in his vast knowledge and infinite wisdom.
We must understand that Istikharah does not guarantee the absence of tests and trials in life. Since Istikharah is a dua, Allah’s answer to this can be one of the three ways described in the Hadith: “There is no Muslim who offers a dua in which there is no sin or family ties, but Allah will give him one. three things in return: either he will soon answer his du’aa, or he will store it for him in the afterlife, or he will divert an evil equivalent to him because of it. “(Ahmad)

So, if someone goes through a bad marriage even after completing the Istikharah or if his belongings are lost, etc., it may be that Allah wants him to get closer to him by patience and dua and sends his blessings in another way. . Allah says, “But maybe you hate a thing and it’s good for you; and maybe you like one thing and it’s bad for you. And Allah knows, while you do not know. “(Quran 2: 216)
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “It is the happiness of the son of Adam to practice Istikharah and to be satisfied with what Allah has commanded him. And it is the misery of the son of Adam to drop the Istikharah of Allah and to be dissatisfied with the decrees of Allah. (Tirmidhi and Ahmad)
Unfortunately, nowadays many people ignore this beautiful Sunna and resort to unfounded or forbidden methods to make important decisions. Some follow the Sunnah of the Istikharah Prayer but have added strange myths and unreasonable expectations. They ask a foreign or religious person to do it for them and expect the results of Istikharah to be shown to them in dreams, visions, special signs or colors when all this is nothing other than acts of ignorance. First of all, it’s a form of innovation to ask someone else to do the Istikharah for you or for others, and on the other hand, it does not give an instant result like give the green light to move on to a given case.

Istikharah is a dua that one needs to make oneself, at any time of the day, then to carry out the business (for which he prayed). And if it’s good, then Allah will make it easy for him and bless him for it, and if it’s not good for him, then Allah will reject him and make it easy for him. authorization. For, no doubt, the person who makes the Istikharah, seeking advice from his Creator and notice of His creation, never regrets it, as Allah says: id to his messenger (peace be upon him): “. .. And when you have decided, then on Allah. Indeed, Allah loves those who rely on him. “(Quran 3: 159)
