“Nikah is my Sunnah, My system, the one who turns away from my Sunnah, He is not of me or has no relation with me”
Islam emphasizes the importance of marriage. In the previous articles on marriage, we read many things, but today the subject is different. This post is about selecting a good life partner with whom you can live your life happily according to the rules of Islam.
Normally, people selects their spouses because of several reasons such as beauty, wealth, rank, caste, etc. I have personally seen most people who choose their life partner because of beauty. Let’s now analyze in the light of the Qur’an and Hadiths what should we choose for marriage?
Features When choosing a spouse
According to the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“One person chooses his life partner for four reasons: 1. Rank 2. Money 3. Beauty 4. Taqwa (Virtue) One should choose who is the best in Taqwa (virtue)” [Sahih Hadith]
So, above Hadith on choosing a spouse by saying clearly that the best thing we should look for to find a spouse is the virtue
Here are some of the most important features that can be found in the Quran and Sunnah when it comes to choosing a good spouse.
RELIGIOUS CONVICTION
“A woman is married for her religion, her wealth, or her beauty, you must go for one with deen, let your hands be in the dust!” (If you do not heed it) “[Muslim]
This characteristic specifies “fulfill the obligation and avoid the prohibition”. Hadith indicates in reference to deen “, that is to say, a future piety of the spouses and the best practice of Islam.
The characteristic of piety applies to both man and woman. The Prophet (Salla Allah’Alaihi Wa Sallam) said:
If anyone with the piety and character you are satisfied comes to you, marry him. If you do not do it, there will be trials on the earth and a lot of trouble. “[Tirmidhi]
CHARACTER AND ACTS OF THE SPOUSE
Character is extremely important in Islam and goes hand in hand with faith and piety. The Prophet (peace be upon him) even described it as the purpose of his mission to humanity as we can see in the followin hadith:
“I was only sent to complete a good character.” [Al-Hakim]
“To marry the love / friendly, the birth because I will precede the other nations with your number on Qiyama.” [Ahmad, Abu Daud]
The future spouses must ask and know the behavior and the ways of the other. As a sign too, one can look at the ways and behavior of the other person’s family and many times (but not always) the behavior of people in the same family is similar. In other words, some characteristics tend to show up in some families, be they good or bad characters such as anger, politeness, greed, generosity, lies, veracity and so on. after.
BEAUTY AND LOOKS OF THE SPOUSE
Once, a companion told the Prophet (peace be upon him) that he was going to get married. The Prophet asked if he saw it. When the man said no, he said:
“Go look at her, because there is more chance of engendering love between you two.” [Ahmad]
Umar ibn Al-Khattab once said, “Do not force your young girls to marry an ugly man, because they also love what you love.”
Beauty has its role, but remember that it is at the bottom of the list of priorities under godliness, character and deen. When a person puts beauty above all else, the results can be disastrous. This is one of the main reasons why young people seeking marriage should be helped by older members of their family to make their choice.
VIRGINITY OF THE SPOUSE
Although not a requirement, Islam urges a Muslim man to marry a virgin only because men naturally prefer a woman who has never been with anyone else before.
“Marry the virgins because they have softer mouths, more productive stomachs and are more satisfied with less.” [Has Tabaraani]
This attribute applies to the husband as it applies to the woman. Umar ibn Al-Khattab heard about a woman who was married to an elderly man and he said:
“O people, fear Allah and marry a man to a woman who is like him and marry a woman to a man who looks like him.”
Last words, it is wise to keep your eyes open and take your time. Since marriage is for life, for eternity, rushing for whatever reason is the act of a foolish or careless person who has only to blame himself ifhoses go wrong. That Allah SWT helps everyone find good spouses
