Definition of the Prophet and the Messenger
The Prophet is defined as the one to whom a law is revealed, but he was not commanded to communicate it. Believers; To clarify for them a specific meaning, and to complete the law of the prophets before him, such as the Prophet of God Jesus – peace be upon him. As for the Messenger, he is sent to a non-believer, and a new law is revealed to him.
Who are the prophets mentioned in the Qur’an?
The question God – Glory be to Him, the Most High – mentioned in the Holy Qur’an twenty-five prophets and messengers whom He sent to His servants on earth, and among them are eighteen prophets and messengers who are mentioned in one place of the Holy Qur’an which is in Surat Al-An’ am in His saying – the Most High: (وَتِلكَ حُجَّتُنا آتَيناها إِبراهيمَ عَلى قَومِهِ نَرفَعُ دَرَجاتٍ مَن نَشاءُ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ حَكيمٌ عَليمٌ وَوَهَبنا لَهُ إِسحاقَ وَيَعقوبَ كُلًّا هَدَينا وَنوحًا هَدَينا مِن قَبلُ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِهِ داوودَ وَسُلَيمانَ وَأَيّوبَ وَيوسُفَ وَموسى وَهارونَ وَكَذلِكَ نَجزِي المُحسِنينَ وَزَكَرِيّا وَيَحيى وَعيسى وَإِلياسَ كُلٌّ مِنَ الصّالِحينَ وَإِسماعيلَ وَاليَسَعَ وَيونُسَ وَلوطًا وَكُلًّا فَضَّلنا عَلَى العالَمينَ)

- Prophet Soliman.
- Prophet Job.
- Prophet Yusuf.
- Prophet Mousa
- Prophet Haroun.
- Prophet Zakaria
- Prophet Yahya.
- Prophet Jesus Eissa
- Prophet Elias.
- Prophet Ismail.
- Prophet Younis.
- Prophet Lout.
As for the remaining seven, they were mentioned in separate places, and they are as follows:
- Our Master prophet Muhammad – may God bless him and grant him peace: (مُّحَمَّدٌ رَّسُولُ اللَّـهِ).
- Prophet Adam: (إِنَّ اللَّـهَ اصْطَفَى آدَمَ وَنُوحًا).
- Prophet Houd: (وَإِلى عادٍ أَخاهُم هودًا).
- Prophet Saleh: (وَإِلى ثَمودَ أَخاهُم صالِحًا).
- Prophet Shoaib: (وَإِلى مَديَنَ أَخاهُم شُعَيبًا)
- Prophet Idrees , Zu Al-kefl :(وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ وَإِدْرِيسَ وَذَا الْكِفْلِ كُلٌّ مِّنَ الصَّابِرِينَ).
The number of all prophets and messengers

God – Glory be to Him – sent many messengers and prophets to convey His messages, and some of them were mentioned in the Noble Qur’an and told us about their stories with their people, and some of them were not mentioned and we do not know their names, and therefore it is not possible to determine the number of all the messengers and prophets, as God Almighty says – In his holy book: (وَرُسُلًا قَدْ قَصَصْنَاهُمْ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ قَبْلُ وَرُسُلًا لَمْ نَقْصُصْهُمْ عَلَيْكَ وَكَلَّمَ اللَّهُ مُوسَى تَكْلِيمًا).
- In this verse, a clear statement from God – Glory be to Him – to His Noble Prophet that there are many messengers whom God – the Most High – did not mention to our master Muhammad – may God’s prayers and peace be upon him – and therefore it is not possible to be certain about the number of prophets and messengers as long as many of them are unknown to us.
- As for the honorable prophetic hadiths that were mentioned in this regard, it cannot be taken into account because they are weak, and there is some confusion and disagreement in them, for example, what was narrated by Abu Umama who says: (قلت: يا رسولَ اللهِ كم وفَّى عددُ الأنبياءِ؟ قال: مائةُ ألفٍ وأربعةُ وعشرون ألفًا، الرسلُ من ذلك ثلاثمائةٍ وخمسةَ عشرَ جمًّا غفيرًا).

The wisdom of sending the prophets
God – the Most High – sent the prophets for many wisdoms, including the following:
- calling people to monotheism and avoiding polytheism, because of what God – the Most High – says: (وَلَقَدْ بَعَثْنَا فِي كُلِّ أُمَّةٍ رَسُولًا أَنِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ وَاجْتَنِبُوا الطَّاغُوتَ).
Explanation of the straight path that leads to God – the Most High – because God – the Most High – said: (هُوَ الَّذِي بَعَثَ فِي الْأُمِّيِّينَ رَسُولًا مِنْهُمْ يَتْلُو عَلَيْهِمْ آيَاتِهِ وَيُزَكِّيهِمْ وَيُعَلِّمُهُمُ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ وَإِنْ كَانُوا مِنْ قَبْلُ لَفِي ضَلَالٍ مُبِينٍ).
An explanation for people about their conditions on the Day of Resurrection, and that the believer will have forgiveness and Paradise, and the unbeliever will have Hell. - Establishing an argument against humans, according to God Almighty’s saying: (رُسُلًا مُبَشِّرِينَ وَمُنْذِرِينَ لِئَلَّا يَكُونَ لِلنَّاسِ عَلَى اللَّهِ حُجَّةٌ بَعْدَ الرُّسُلِ) In addition to having mercy on them, God Almighty says: (وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ إِلَّا رَحْمَةً لِلْعَالَمِينَ).
- Conveying to people what God – the Most High – loves and what angers Him, and removing people from servitude to other than God – the Most High – to worship Him alone, and clarifying to people the purpose of their creation, which is to worship and build the earth.
- A statement to people about the unseen matters that cannot be comprehended with the mind; Such as knowing God – the Most High – and His Names, His Attributes, the Angels, Heaven, Hell, and other matters of the unseen.
- set a good example for people; God Almighty has protected them from suspicions and desires, and they were all characterized by virtuous morals.
