In the Qur’an, Allah the Almighty says: “Those to whom We gave the Book recite it with its true story. They [are the ones] who believe in this. And whoever believes in it, it is they who are the losers. [[Al-Baqarah – Verse 121]

From this ayah of the Qur’an, it is clear that the Qur’an needs to be recited in the true form and form that it describes to be recited. This need to recite the Quran in the light of the rules and regulations of the narrative refers to the cruel aspect of Tajweed. The lines below discuss what Tajweed is, why it is necessary, and some tips that can help you learn Tajweed rules.

Tajweed Quran means

From a linguistic point of view, the word “Tajweed” actually means “doing something good” or “knowing how to do it”. Therefore, if Tajweed is to be considered regarding the Qur’an, it means learning the Qur’an in the proper manner keeping in mind the requirements of the pronunciation of the Arabic language. Therefore, when each letter is spoken with the right understanding and the way it is described to be recited, it means that the Qur’an has returned to Tajweed.

Learn Quran with Tajweed

The best recitation pattern of the Holy Quran is Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He knew that the rules of Tajweed with which the Qur’an was revealed to him, so he recited it in the same way and other people imitated him. Therefore, it becomes imperative that one learns the rule of Tajweed so that the Quran could be recited in the same way that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) recited himself.

The goal behind the Tajweed observation:

Besides the fact that the recitation of the Qur’an with Tajweed is the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), there are other purposes behind respect and ensuring Tajweed.

The first goal behind the observation of Tajweed is the fact that the Qur’an is revealed by Allah Almighty. His being his subjects, it is imperative that we read and recite the Qur’an in the same way that He revealed it. To recite Quran in this way means that the person recites in the true form in which it is disclosed, from the detachment of the Authority of Allah, and to submit in an appropriate manner.

The second purpose of reciting the Qur’an is that words do not change their meaning. Arabic is a very sensitive language and any variation in the form of shortening or lengthening of sounds leads to a change in meanings. Therefore, if the proper rules of Tajweed are not followed, the words of the Qur’an, although seeming to change their meaning, which is something that a Muslim must avoid in all cases.

The rise of the need to learn Tajweed:

If Islam was a religion of the Arabs and the Koran would have been recited in the Arab region of the world only, then there would be no need to tell or teach others the rules of Tajweed, as the natives of the language they would know the proper way to pronounce words and alphabets. However, Islam is a universal region and, because of its universal appeal, has spread throughout the world. Because of this spread of Islam, people from different parts of the world started to read the Quran, however, because they were not native to the Arabic language, they pronounced the words because their pronunciation was in their own language. As a result, the pronunciation gap began to occur, which resulted in the need to properly establish and document Tajweed’s rules for Holy Quran recitation.

Tajweed’s rules are not random rules, but a lot of effort has gone into them. Many Muslim scholars have gone through the turmoil of establishing Tajweed rules so that people should know the rules and keep them.
