This is a very interesting question because, according to psychological studies, a lot of people alive today are responsible for some sort of depression, it’s important to explore this issue with regard to the fact of being better Muslims. Islam not only being a religion but also a complete way of life provides us with a solution to every problem, and depression is a problem that can be found in the teachings of Islam.

Overcoming Depression in Islam

Sins are a major factor in our sadness and therefore in our depression. We sin, we feel guilty of causing depression, stress, and anxiety. It is this depression that can cause us to repent or spoil even more in sin. Allah Almighty said in the Quran: “And turn away from My remembrance, there is a hard life.” (Qur’an, 20: 124)

A little depression and anxiety is a normal part of life that can be healed by prayer and positive thinking. For those of us who experience abnormal and unhealthy levels of depression and anxiety, there is hope in Islam for these disabling symptoms. If we feel depressed, we encourage our belief in Allah and we recite the supplication for depression and worries.

Allah says in the Qur’an, “Allah is the protector of those who are of faith, who are the disciples from the depths of the trees in the light, and they will be companions of the fire, to abide therein forever.” (Qur’an, 2: 257 )

How to deal with depression and anxiety according to the Quran and Sunnah?

We have faith in Almighty Allah in all aspects of life. Some steps that can help cope with depression and anxiety below:

Ask Allah Almighty (Dua): Turn every anxiety, fear, and concern into Dua. Look at it as another reason to come to the Lord and be in prostration, where you are closest to Allah. Almighty Allah listens and already knows what is in your heart, but He wants you to ask what you want. Our beloved Prophet (SAW) said: “Allah is angry with those who do not say anything” (Tirmidhi). We continue to ask Allah Almighty, no matter what we are dealing with. He is the only one who can help us. the way to overcome depression in Islam is really important.
Read Surah Ad Duha: According to a report, after the Prophet (SAW) began to receive the revelation of Allah Almighty, at some point a long period passed without any communication from Allah. As a result, the Makkans humiliate the Prophet (SAW) because of what has become severely depressed. At that time, this chapter was revealed (Quran 93: 1-11). The chapter is a beautiful reminder for us to see life in the grand scheme of things, to be grateful for what we have and never give up looking for what is right. Remember Allah, do Dhikr: Keep your tongue busy with the remembrance of Allah who is Dhikr. Remembering Allah comforts your heart and eliminates your depression and anxiety. In the Holy Qur’an, Allah says: “Those who believe and those who do not have the heart find peace in the memory of Allah because hearts have peace in the memory of Allah.” (Quran, 13:28)
Offer Salah: Those who keep their prayers on time and pray with concentration and timidity will find peace. Salahis is the best way to reduce stress and depression because a Muslim prays intending to connect with his creator who can help him overcome his difficulties. Allah Almighty says in the Quran: “O you who believe, use patience and prayer Allah is with the patient.” (Qur’an, 2: 153)
Recite the Holy Quran:  Learn how to read the Quran. The Quran is the best form of remembrance of Allah Almighty, bringing comfort and peace to the heart. Our beloved Prophet (SAW) said: “The Qur’an is the best medicine against the disease of the soul” (Bukhari).
To recite Surah Nas: reciting Surah Nas regularly will protect against depression and encourage the mood of someone who suffers from depression.So the way to overcome depression in Islam is really useful.
Asking for help via Sabr: Being patient gives us control in situations where we feel we have no control. Patience helps us to keep our mind and attitude to our controlled difficulties. Allah says in the Qur’an, “Seek help from Sabr and Salah” (Quran 2:45) so it’s great to learn the way for Overcoming depression in Islam.
Trust Allah Almighty (Tawakkul): Trust Allah by regularly remembering Him throughout your day. Once you have established a plan that you intend to follow to deal with a particular problem or problem in your life, trust the wisest and best who are Allah Almighty. Allah says in the Quran: “When you have made a decision, go your trust in Allah” (Quran 3: 159).
Seek forgiveness for your sins: When someone seeks forgiveness from Allah, he will be relieved of the anxiety and depression sought by his sins. Forgiveness brings happiness, so ask forgiveness and also try to forgive others. the way to overcome depression in Islam is really important.
Do not procrastinate: Laziness is one of the causes of stress from the point of view of someone who does not see his work. The Prophet (SAW) used to seek refuge in Allah against laziness.
