Many people ask, “How can you begin to heal a relationship with someone who you think has caused you pain? Remember that what you choose not to forgive will weigh you down as long as you choose to carry that thought with you. No matter how much you think you are right in defending your position, no matter how much you have perceived the situation, you will bear the pain until you are able to forgive your brother or sister. As the great “philosopher” Buddy Hackett once said, “Do not bear a grudge. While you bear the grudge, the other guy is dancing. “Forgive your brother, free him and you will be free.
When God looks at you, he sees his perfect expression manifest in you. He does not need to see your past or imagine your future, because what is perfect is simply and always will be. You must do nothing but feel his presence to remind you that it is the truth. If you allow yourself to look in his eyes, you will remember all that you have always been and always will be. He has given you a present, and this gift is your brother. If, at the moment, you allow yourself to see your brother as God sees you, all the illusions of the past or of the future will simply disappear. They will not touch you anymore and they will be gone.
One moment, drop everything you think your brother or sister did to you. Abandon all the thoughts that caused you pain, all the thoughts that weighed you down. For a moment, let go of the past and look at your present. Ask God to lend you his heart, and open your mind and spirit to see perfection in your brother or sister. At this moment, you will remember your perfection. Ask God to be with you right now and you will feel his presence. For a moment, ask God to reveal all the love he has for you and your brother or sister. Spread this love on your brother or sister.
What do you have to lose? Offer God a moment of your time and consider the brother you once judged with absolute love. Forgive all the past illusions of your brother and see him as God does. Offer this moment to yourself and you will be released forever. Ask God to help you look through your brother’s actions and in his soul. Really, give yourself this moment, and it will change your life.
It will change your life because it will allow you to see and recognize that no matter what you think a brother has done to you, there is another way to look at it. It will change your life because you will meet a moment that extends forever. At this moment, you have the ultimate power to see life and your brother as you wish. Your brother is the perfect expression of God and not what you perceive he did to you. The ego taught you to take a step that you thought was a brother and judge him. The ego replaces the truth of your brother with action and judgment. Your brother no longer really exists, but your judgment of his action now lives in his place.
Again, your brother is not what he did to you. Seek a moment through God and see the truth shine through. At the moment when the ego-me advises the judgment, the God himself offers forgiveness. In the moment, you have this choice. It is a choice between peace and pain, forgiveness and judgment, and simply between heaven and hell.
This simple invitation will give you back the power and understanding that it’s up to you to choose how you see your brother at any point in your life. You will remember that if you really want it, you can choose forgiveness, peace of mind and joy at any time, in any situation and with any brother or sister. You will remember that God is always with you and you just have to invoke it. Call the part of Him who is in you to free you. The gift of God to you is your brother and the gift of your brother is an opportunity to choose peace at any time. Your present to God consists in seeing and recalling this perfection in his creation.
Throughout your life, you’ve probably tried to do it the ego way. Allow yourself, if only for a moment, to try your luck. The way of the ego has offered you suffering, judgment, sleepless nights, stress, resentment and pain. His path promises you peace of mind and joy. The ego way is based on illusions about what you think you are and how you think you should act and react. It is a false path, a dead-end road made up of lies that you have been taught to believe true.
His path is your true path. His will is your true will. The moment is God’s gift for you. It is the eternal gift. He is always available, offering peace of mind and joy. He never left you and never will. You will always have the opportunity to choose the moment, to choose peace instead of pain. The moment is at your disposal to do what you want. Your true will brings peace of mind and joy. Your false will causes judgment and pain. Yet, free will is your right, and it is you, every moment, who choose what you will produce and experiment
