Duaa When starting ablution in English
In the name of Allah.
Irwa’ul-Ghalil 1:122
How to perform Wudu?
This article will guide you through the process of making wudu. Wudu is needed before praying Salah. The steps must be completed in the order listed below, and they must be completed without lengthy breaks between each step.
Do niyyah (intention) to perform wudu. Niyyah is the Islamic concept of doing an act for the sake of Allah. To really perform a wudu, you need to focus and calm your thoughts, seriously focusing on what you are doing.
Niyyah is not spoken aloud and should be done in the heart; to focus on the expression “Bismillah” (in the name of Allah) is a good way to achieve the necessary centering. Say it out loud or silently, depending on what makes you comfortable.
Wash your hands. Use your left hand to wash your right hand. Do this three times. After that, use your right hand to wash your left hand three times. Be sure to wash between your fingers and wrists.
Take some water in your mouth. Use your right hand to put water in your mouth three times. Swish it around your cheeks and the back of your throat. Do this thoroughly to get all the food left in your mouth.
Inhale the water in your nose. Use your right hand to drink water and inhale it three times through the nose. You can use your left hand to close a nostril and blow if you need it. Sniff suddenly and without taking too much water in your nose and do not suffocate yourself. If you can not inhale water through your nose, you can wet your fingers and put water on the bottom of your nostrils.
Make sure to use drinking water to perform this ritual; in some warmer parts of the world, water may contain naegleria fowleri, an amoeba that, if inhaled into the nostrils, can cause a rare but generally fatal brain infection. Even tap water (generally in the Third World and developing countries) can be contaminated; to avoid this disease, boil water for one minute (three minutes at a higher altitude) and allow it to cool before rinsing your nose with water. [1]
Wash your face. Wash your face three times by spreading your hands from your right ear to the left and from the hairline to the chin.
Wash your lower arms from wrists to elbows, leaving no part dry. From wrist to elbow, wash your right arm with your left hand three times, then wash your left arm with your right hand three times.
If you have a casting, you are allowed to simply wipe it instead. [2]
Clean your head. This is known as “masah”. With your wet hands, gently wipe your entire head once, from the forehead to the back of the head.
Wipe your ears inside and out. With the same water, use your finger to clean all crevices in your ear. Use your thumb to clean behind your ears from the bottom up. This is also done once.
Wash both feet. Clean the ankles and make sure the water passes between the toes. Use your little finger and cross each toe to eliminate everything in between. Start with your right foot and rub each foot three times.

Memorize the command. The Wudu must be done one after the other (Tarthib), so it is important that you know the order of the steps in order to follow them with precision. If you make a mistake in order, you must start your wudu again from the beginning. [3]
